Obama’s stimulus

After weeks of intense lobbying, dubbed a "charm offensive" by many observers, President Barack Obama was unable to get a single Republican in the House of Representatives to vote for his massive stimulus plan. In fact, he lost about a dozen Democrats, who voted "no."
Panel acts as if stream rules don’t apply

The Current River is held in high esteem by Central Missouri residents, has been the site of many float trips by Columbia residents and has been designated by Congress as one of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, with a corridor managed by the National Park Service. Editor, the Tribune: Cities, communities and individuals experience ebbs and flows of excitement and progress. Columbia is in the trenches of ebbing, seemingly by intention. Missing the Tour of Missouri cycle event is only the latest example. This is hardly just a complaint from a cyclist; it is the observation of a longtime resident and whole-hearted city supporter.
Spending plan leaves many unstimulated

Here is what my George Mason University colleague Professor Richard Wagner wrote, which was published by the office of the House Republican leader: "Any so-called stimulus program is a ruse. The government can increase its spending only by reducing private spending equivalently. Whether government finances its added spending by increasing taxes, by borrowing, or by inflating the currency, the added spending will be offset by reduced private spending.
