Garrido suspended after arrest University of Texas baseball Coach Augie Garrido was suspended indefinitely with pay yesterday after his early morning arrest on a drunken driving charge. Police stopped the winningest coach in major college baseball near downtown Austin just before 1 a.m. yesterday after an officer became suspicious of his driving, Austin police detective James Mason said. Garrido was arrested after he failed a field sobriety test and was booked into the Travis County Jail, Mason said. Garrido, 69, has been the Longhorns’ head coach since 1996 after coaching at four schools, most successfully at Cal State-Fullerton. He has led the Longhorns to the College World Series in five of the past eight seasons and won national titles in 2002 and 2005.
