Pansy Miller, 1911-2009

Pansy Opal Miller, 97, of Ashland died Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at home with family. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Springfield National Cemetery. Visitation will immediately precede the service at noon.
Pansy Miller was born Aug. 23, 1911, in Buffalo, the daughter of Joe Thomas and Nellie Keith Stafford. On April 11, 1941, she was united in marriage with Russell D. Miller, and one child, Carolyn, was born of this union. Pansy attended Draughn Business School and then worked as a bookkeeper at Stafford Bros. Livestock Commission Firm for many years. She had a zest for life and a genuine love of people. Her smile was well known for brightening a room and came easily to her. She enjoyed traveling to visit family and socializing with friends. One of her favorite activities was playing bridge with her dear friends. She is survived by a sister, Bethel Connelly of Lee’s Summit; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Steve Cheavens of Ashland; two granddaughters, Jen Cheavens of Columbus, Ohio, and Beth Lambiotte and husband Brian of Ashland; one great-granddaughter, Josephine; and a large number of nieces, nephews and caring friends. Pansy was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Miller; and siblings Edna Durington, Paul Stafford, Enith Dixon, Kenneth Stafford, Edith Durrington and Clint Stafford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Hospice of America, 3050 I-70 Drive S.E., Suite 100, Columbia, Mo., 65201. Her family would like to offer special thanks to family and friends and the dedicated workers of Community Hospice of America for their support and care.
