THE TRIBUNE'S VIEW
Bibles in school

By HENRY J. WATERS III, Publisher, Columbia Daily Tribune
For some years the South Iron R-1 School District near St. Louis distributed Bibles to kids in grade school. It’s fine for anyone, including a school administrator, to be an ardent Christian, but to hand out Bibles in public school is an obvious endorsement of a particular religion by a public agency, a clear violation of the U.S. Constitution.

Neither candidate looks good as economy fails
By MONA CHAREN

City shouldn’t have dived into Philips Lake
By KEN MIDKIFF
Nyah, nyah, nyah. Told you so, told you so. OK, that’s somewhat childish. But that was my first reaction when I learned that Philips Lake (or Bristol Lake, or whatever it is called these days) was recommended for placement on the state’s "impaired waterbody" - or 303(d) - list.
