School bus complainers don’t know all the facts
Published Friday, September 26, 2008
Editor, the Tribune: I want to speak on behalf of myself and my fellow co-workers about the complaints on bus service. ● We have nothing to do with the cards you receive in the mail from the First Student office. Those cards are generated through a routing program that doesn’t calculate travel time, wait time for students or traffic lights. ● We have problems at schools trying to get in and out of the drives. Parents park in the bus circles and yell at us when they get stuck. ● We can’t do anything about bullying if we aren’t informed. We can’t watch constantly; we have to focus on the road. Your child should stay close to the driver. If there is a problem, talk with your driver. ● By now, all the routes should be running on schedule and in the most time-efficient way. Some of us were held at our schools for the first seven or eight days by the schools to make sure all students made it to their buses. ● Our buses are governed not to run over 70 mph. If you have no doubt that a bus is speeding, call First Student. ● If your bus is late once, don’t yell at your driver. If it becomes a daily ordeal, then approach the driver. Before you complain, you should take into consideration all the factors we have to deal with on a daily basis. Try keeping to a time schedule when you have so many factors that stand in your way.
