Burglars target rural churches in county

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department is investigating three break-ins at area churches since Sunday.

The burglaries occurred at two churches in the Midway area and another on Route Z, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department. A small amount of cash and candy was taken from one church, but nothing was missing from the other two.

At about 9:30 a.m. Sunday, deputies were dispatched to Grandview Baptist Church, 8300 N. Route Z, after a door window was found broken out and a small amount of cash and candy was missing from an office.

Deputies also responded at about 7 a.m. yesterday to Locust Grove Methodist Church, 6300 Locust Grove Road, and Midway Heights Baptist Church, 6801 Rolling Hills Road, for reported break-ins.

Someone entered through an unlocked door at Locust Grove, the sheriff’s department said, and one or more intruders forced entry into Midway Heights. Nothing was reported missing from either church, but each structure had minor property damage.
