Teen drinking rate high in St. Charles County
Published Monday, September 22, 2008
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Parents in St. Charles County are being warned against hosting underage drinkers in the home. Healthy Communities says a study by the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia found a higher rate of underage drinking in that eastern Missouri county than in the state and nation. The group says about one in four students surveyed in sixth through 12th grades reported using alcohol in the past month. Julie Brilley of Healthy Communities says it is unclear why the underage drinking statistics are greater in St. Charles County. But she added that all communities should be on alert for underage drinking, particularly during homecoming festivities. Copyright 2008 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
