Some luxury stores starting to feel a slowdown in sales are delaying their spring orders. Buyers who are placing orders are avoiding basics and opting for bold fashions that will catch attention. THE IMPACT: Luxury shoppers won’t find off-the-wall runway looks or colors that are unwearable from the spring shows. Fashion observers said, for example, all that marigold featured on the runways will be translated into accents on clothing. REALITY CHECK: Designer customers are still spending but are not buying as many Chanel handbags or Jimmy Choo shoes as in the past. That means that $5,000 party dress is going to have be exciting enough to get the well-heeled to buy.
