Local man accused of sodomy, pornography
Published Saturday, September 20, 2008
A Columbia man was arrested yesterday morning on suspicion of five counts of second-degree statutory sodomy and furnishing pornographic materials to a minor.
On Sept. 3, a report was filed with the Columbia Police Department regarding the possible sexual abuse of a child. Police identified the suspect as John A. Griffith, 31, of 2401 W. Broadway, Apt. 302. As the report was researched, an investigator from the Major Crimes Unit interviewed both Griffith and a 14-year-old boy who was the alleged victim. According to police, Griffith made incriminating statements that were later confirmed in the investigation. At about 11 a.m. yesterday, police went to Griffith’s place of employment, arrested him and took him to the police station for processing. The investigation is ongoing, and police ask that anyone with information about the case to submit a tip to CrimeStoppers at www.875tips.com.
