MU volleyball drops close match at K-State

The Missouri volleyball team got off to a good start but lost to 16th-ranked Kansas State 23-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-22 last night in Manhattan, Kan. Catie Wilson tied a career-high with 12 kills on a .385 hitting percentage for the Tigers (8-8, 2-4 Big 12). Amanda Hantouli and Weiwen Wang added 10 kills apiece. Hantouli also led the team with four blocks, while Weiwen tallied 12 assists for a double-double. Julianna Klein had nine kills and a career-high 19 digs. Caitlyn Vann notched 19 digs and three aces. Lei Wang contributed a double-double with 29 assists and 13 digs. Kansas State improved to 15-3, 5-2 in the Big 12. College soccer ● CMU men, women blanked: In Fayette, both Eagles squads were shut out by Lindenwood. The women held the No. 22 Lions scoreless through 76 minutes before falling 1-0, and the men lost 5-0. ● Westminster men tie, women lose: In Fulton, the Blue Jays men saw their record go to 6-1-1 after a 2-2 tie with Greenville. Sean Peterson and Brady Weinhold scored the goals for Westminster. The women fell to 3-7-1 with a 6-1 loss to Greenville. Meaghan Barron tallied the lone goal, her team-leading eighth of the season, for the Blue Jays. Prep softball ● Class 2 District 14: In Higginsville, third-seeded Harrisburg scored two runs in the second and fifth innings to advance past Fayette 4-1. Lindsey Roberts tossed a two-hitter for Harrisburg (11-12). She struck out five, walked none and allowed one earned run. Fayette’s Sam Jacobson took the loss, fanning 11 with one walk and five hits allowed. Harrisburg freshman Chelsey Kroese reached safely three times, going 2 for 2 with a run scored. She was also hit by a pitch. Mickyla Mathews hit an RBI triple and Kaitlynn Guile an RBI double for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs face No. 2 Higginsville at 6:30 tonight. Top-seeded Carrollton plays fourth-seeded Lexington in the other semifinal at 5 p.m. ● Class 1 District 7: In Pilot Grove, Jamestown and Prairie Home advanced to the semifinals with 15-run routs. Jamestown knocked off Bunceton 17-2 before Prairie Home took care of Otterville 15-0. A nine-run first inning propelled Jamestown to victory. Lyndsey Hees and Emily Duncan each had two hits of the Eagles’ seven hits. Prairie Home plated 10 runs in the second inning of its win. Sydney Sells, Ashley Backer and Amanda Coffelt clubbed two hits each. Today’s semifinals pit Jamestown against New Franklin at 5 p.m., followed by Prairie Home and Pilot Grove at 7.
