Doris Blackwell, 1933-2008

Doris Ann Blackwell, 75, of Columbia passed away Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at New Horizons United Methodist Church, 1020 El Chaparral Ave. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service Saturday at the church. She was born on Aug. 7, 1933, in Flat River, the daughter of the late William and Virgie Black King. She was united in marriage to Carrol Blackwell on Dec. 18, 1954. In addition to her husband, Carrol, of 53 years, survivors include her sons, Jeffrey Blackwell and wife Sue of River Falls, Wis., and Tim Blackwell and wife Janie of Jefferson City; sister Hazel Watson of Shreveport, La.; and four grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Olivia and Briana Blackwell. Doris was a talented musician who played the flute in the marching band and the organ for several churches during her life. She was a member of New Horizons United Methodist Church. Doris was a loving wife and dedicated mother who will be remembered for her love of sewing, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.
