Comments sought on city hall sculpture

The city of Columbia is seeking public input about public art slated to stand outside the new city hall building.

Artist Howard Meehan has given the working title "Keys to the City" to his proposed sculpture. It features a range of elements embedded in glass panels such as old photos, text and quotations that reflect the history of the community.

Meehan has been meeting with local historians and doing historical research. The city said in a news release that he also is interested in receiving input from the public. Community members are invited to recommend historically significant people, events or places to be considered for inclusion in the sculpture.

Comments submitted through Nov. 10 will be provided to Meehan for inclusion in his research.

Suggestions may be submitted on an electronic comment form available on the city’s Web site at gocolumbiamo.com/arts; by e-mail at oca@gocolumbiamo.com; by surface mail to Office of Cultural Affairs, P.O. Box 6015, Columbia, Mo., 65205; or by fax to (573) 874-7681.
