Russell school has
golden anniversary

The public is invited to help Russell Boulevard Elementary School celebrate its 50th anniversary. The school, which opened in fall 1958, will host a ceremony at 7 p.m. Thursday, after which attendees will be welcome to tour the building. Russell Boulevard students and staff alumni include U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, who attended the school; former Gov. Roger Wilson, who was an assistant principal; and Axie Hindman, a former teacher who is married to Columbia Mayor Darwin Hindman.
