County art show winners named

“Earthly Glow” by Lucille Wayland

The top winners of the Boone County Art Show, named last Sunday, included Lucille Wayland, whose “Earthly Glow” won the Boone County National Bank Purchase Award, and Nancy Brown, whose art “War: From the Horses of the Apocalypse” garnered the Popular Choice Award.

Now in its 49th year, the show draws more than 250 works of art from Mid-Missouri artists.

“It was one of the best shows we’ve had,” show coordinator Mary Wilkerson said Tuesday.

She said the judge, Jo Mueller, had nothing but compliments for the quality of the submitted work, and Wilkerson was quick to note her choice. “My favorite was ‘The Three Pigs’ by Nancy Brown,” she said.

The two-day show typically draws more than 1,500 visitors, and this year was no exception for public interest. “We were busy all weekend, and people were very complimentary,” said Wilkerson, who also is the bank’s vice president of marketing.

The exhibition will show 100 pieces at the bank at Eighth Street and Broadway, through the end of October. The show, which includes paintings, fiber, drawings, sculpture and mixed media, is co-sponsored by Boone County National Bank and the Columbia Art League.
