River float to feature sneak peek of musical

Participants in Sunday’s Gumbo Bottoms River Float, a four-hour float on the Missouri River from Rocheport to Katfish Katy’s in Huntsdale, will get a sneak peek at select scenes from the new musical production "Gumbo Bottoms: A Big Muddy Musical."

Floaters can bring their own canoe or kayak. Canoe rentals will be available from Mighty Mo Canoe Rental in Rocheport. A $5 participant fee covers insurance and other requirements.

Entertainment at Taylor’s Landing, the riverside stage at Katfish Katy’s, will include music from the Missouri River Blues Society, stories from Fred Oerly about his boyhood in Overton and a short presentation from "Gumbo Bottoms: A Big Muddy Musical." The musical about characters working the Overton Bottoms farmland in an earlier period will have its world premiere Nov. 21 through 23 at Thespian Hall in Boonville.

For more information on the float, contact Andrew Kanis at the Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau at (800) 769-4183. For more information on the musical, contact Meredith Ludwig at (660) 849-2217.
