Waters should criticize candidates’ ideas, not faith

Editor, the Tribune: I’ve always believed what a candidate intends to do for my state is what’s most important, not their religion. With his editorial endorsing Jay Nixon, Hank Waters appears to have employed some sort of religious litmus test.

I’m not disappointed that Hank picked Jay (in reality, I believe his endorsement matters very little). I’m disgusted with the way he did it. Kenny Hulshof has offered ideas and proposals. Attack those, Hank, not his faith.

The way the national media have behaved this year is downright disgraceful, and now it appears our local media have chosen to act in the same manner. Congratulations, Hank, you’ve reached a new low.
