Former lawmaker is Nixon’s budget adviser
Published Tuesday, November 11, 2008
Gov.-elect Jay Nixon today announced the appointment of former state Sen. Wayne Goode, a Democrat from St. Louis County, as his deputy transition director for budget review. Goode’s job is to advise Nixon on the state’s budget situation as Nixon prepares to take office. One of Nixon’s first jobs is to present an annual budget to the General Assembly in early 2009. State revenue forecasts have indicated that the downturn in the economy might mean Missouri will not have the financial resources that had been anticipated. "We’re facing challenging financial times, and there’s no one more qualified to help prepare our first budget than Sen. Wayne Goode," Nixon said in a written statement. First elected in 1962, Goode severed several decades in the state House and Senate, often on budget committees. He was forced to retire in 2005 because of term limits.
