Kansas beats Cowboys to even series

John Allman went 2 for 3 and drove in three runs as Kansas beat Oklahoma State 6-3 yesterday in Lawrence, Kan.

Justin Ellrich scored two runs and drove in a third for the Jayhawks (15-13, 2-3 Big 12).

Kansas starter Zach Ashwood (3-2) got the win, giving up three runs and striking out four in six innings. Paul Smyth got his fifth save.

Justin Friend (2-2) took the loss, giving up four runs in 32/3 innings for Oklahoma State (18-6, 1-1).

Texas 14, Kansas St. 3: In Austin, Texas, Travis Tucker went 4 for 4 and drove in two runs to help lead Texas to its ninth straight win.

Kyle Russell’s solo home run in the fourth inning put the Longhorns (22-7, 5-0) ahead 9-0, and Texas built a 14-0 lead by the bottom of the eighth inning. Preston Clark went 2 for 4 and drove in three runs.

Adrian Alaniz (7-1) got the win, pitching a scoreless seven innings. He struck out six. Chase Bayuk (2-1) got the loss for the Wildcats (17-6, 0-2).

Oklahoma 9, Texas A&M 3: In Norman, Okla., the Aggies (22-4, 3-2) committed three fifth-inning errors that led to three unearned runs.

After back-to-back doubles by Parker Dalton and Brandon Hicks tied the game at one in the top of the fifth, the Sooners (19-7, 1-1) took the lead for good courtesy of the A&M mishaps. Two of the three errors were ground balls that should have been double plays to end the inning.

Sooners starter Heath Taylor (5-0) lasted six-plus innings and allowed two runs on five hits.
