UM system to offer
credit protection
Published Wednesday, June 20, 2007
In the wake of a database breach last month, the University of Missouri is offering reduced-price credit monitoring to all employees and students. The service, which costs $3.46 per month, will monitor credit reports daily, offer fraud resolution assistance and provide $10,000 in identity theft coverage. Credit report company Experian will operate the package. In early May, the university discovered that hackers overseas had gained access to a UM system computer database and had stolen 22,396 names and Social Security numbers. The university said today the breach has led to no confirmed reports of identity theft.
