Editor, the Tribune: In reading all the comments about evolution versus creationism for the last several weeks, none has puzzled me more than the Trib Talk caller in the June 7 paper who believes "all things are the result of nature."

Last month in Iraq, Sen. Gordon Smith, the Oregon Republican, had lunch with three soldiers from his state, one of whom had been working with an Iraqi officer training police cadets. That soldier told Smith that when the cadets learned that the Iraqi officer was a Catholic, they stoned him to death.

GOP hopefuls turn their backs on Bush

The generally solid Republican support that has stood loyally behind President George W. Bush, his war in Iraq and other policies is showing signs of cracking, judging from comments of some of the party’s 10 declared presidential candidates in their recent debate in New Hampshire.
