Anita Adams, 1937-2007

Anita Louise Adams of Columbia passed away Thursday, June 14, 2007, at The Cedars in Chesterfield after a long struggle with ALS. A brief graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, June 18, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Columbia. This will be followed by a luncheon and celebration of Anita’s life at noon at the Holiday Inn Executive Center Piccadilly Restaurant. Mrs. Adams was born Sept. 6, 1937, in Jefferson City to Marie and LeRoy Sellenschutter of Hermann. She was married on Dec. 20, 1959, in Hermann to George C. Adams of Carthage. He preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 1975. She earned a bachelor of science in education and a master’s in education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She spent six years working as an administrator in the housing office at MU during the 1960s, eight years as a teacher in Columbia Public Schools and 11 years as principal at Russell Boulevard Elementary. Survivors include two sons, Brian Adams and his wife, Desi, of Pasadena, Calif., and Stuart Adams and his wife, Susan, and three grandchildren, Curtis, 15, Nathan, 13, and Caroline, 10, of Creve Coeur; and her great-uncle, Ralph Sellenschutter of Hermann.
