Rucker a preseason All-Big 12 pick Yesterday, the Missouri Tigers were picked to win the Big 12 Conference North Division, but today, only one MU player was named to the preseason all-conference team: senior tight end Martin Rucker. The preseason honors and projected standings are voted on by a panel of media members who regularly cover the conference. Rucker caught 53 passes for 511 yards and five touchdowns last season. His 119 career receptions rank second among active Big 12 players, trailing only Iowa State senior wide receiver Todd Blythe. The same media panel picked Rucker’s teammate, Chase Coffman, as the first-team All-Big 12 tight end after last season. Coffman had more receptions (58), receiving yards (638) and touchdowns (nine) than Rucker. Texas quarterback Colt McCoy was named the preseason offensive player of the year. Oklahoma cornerback Reggie Smith took the defensive honors. Nebraska quarterback Sam Keller, a senior transfer from Arizona State, was named preseason newcomer of the year. Texas led the league with seven selections.
