Annual parade tops list of early activities
The Boone County Fair Parade always provides one of the summer’s great
attractions in The District, Columbia’s bustling downtown area.
Queen pageant lures 13 aspiring to reign
Thirteen young women will take the stage on Monday, July 23, and vie for the
title of Miss Boone County Fair. The winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship to
the school of her choice.
Kids love these events at the fair
There is plenty of activity for young children at the Boone County Fair. Kids
love the fair at least as much as adults do!
Carnival spins its evening magic
Even with all the other fun things to do at the Boone County Fair, the carnival
is impossible to ignore. The smell of fresh popcorn, the sound of whirring
rides, the sight of Ferris wheel gondolas suspended against the sky — all
these sensations and more lure passersby as they stroll across the fairgrounds
on carnival days.
Go-karts race on Tuesday evening
Have you ever driven a go-kart? Go-karts are exciting! And go-karts are back at
the Boone County Fair for the third year in a row, in an event that is rapidly
growing in popularity at the fair for participants and spectators alike.
Horse Show celebrates 60th year
This summer during the Boone County Fair, the Boone County Society Horse Show
will celebrate its 60th anniversary with sparkling musical performances by area
vocalist Becky Blackaby, and with a special Boone County Society Horse Show
historical display in the arena part of the Multipurpose Building.
Competition always in good fun onstage at popular Talent Show
The Boone County Fair tends to bring out the best in people, especially at the
fair’s ever-popular Talent Show. Put a person of any age up onstage, in front
of a friendly audience, and extraordinary things can happen. That’s what
contestants and audience members alike can expect every night of the preliminary
rounds and finals.
Recording star leads music list
The Boone County Fair proudly presents Missouri singer and songwriter Sue
Kennedy, in concert at the Multipurpose Building at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 28.
Students! Would you like to perform onstage with Sue Kennedy at the fair?
"Ever since I’ve been a recording artist, I’ve involved student
performers in my family entertainment." So says popular recording artist
Sue Kennedy, who will perform onstage Saturday night during the Boone County
Fair.
Babies are always crowd-pleasers
Nearly 250 babies appeared in the various categories of the four baby contests
held at last year’s Boone County Fair. That’s a lot of babies!
Pig racing comes to fair
They’re fun. They’re fast. And they’re smarter than dogs! We’re talking
about pigs. Pink little porkers are going to race for four days at this year’s
Boone County Fair.
Fair BBQ contest not just for pros
Are you a backyard barbecue fan? Do people say you smoke the best ribs or
chicken in town?
‘Mirth Doctor’ returns to breakfast
Local veterinarian Dr. Alan Wessler, also known as "The Mirth Doctor,"
will take another turn as guest speaker at the Annual Ham Breakfast at the Boone
County Fair.
Demo Derby draws fans on final night
It’s Sunday night. Most vendors have gone home. The carnies have dismantled
the carnival rides. It’s the last night of the Boone County Fair, and time for
a little peace and quiet, one might think.
