Jazz series on tap

It’s hard to imagine organizing a yearlong music series, but somehow jazz enthusiast Jon Poses manages to do it again and again with the "We Always Swing" Jazz Series. With the series in its 13th year, any superstitions or notions of bad luck should be tossed aside. The series recently released its program for the upcoming 2007-08 concert season, which shows a stellar lineup of ensembles.

SEPTEMBER

David "Fathead" Newman Quartet
● Sept. 27 at The Blue Note
● A special meet-and-greet session with Newman, at right, takes place Sept. 26 at Ragtag, where the artist will discuss his relationship with the late Ray Charles.

OCTOBER

"Jazz, Wine & Beer" pub crawl
● Oct. 4 in The District, $35
● The annual jazz andpub crawl will include entertainment at 16 downtown eateries and finish with a party at The Blue Note.



● Omar Sosa Afreecanos Quartet
● Oct. 14 at Kimball Ballroom, Lela Rainey Wood Ballroom, Stephens College

Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis
● Feb. 10 at Jesse Auditorium on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus
● Trumpeter Marsalis, a descended from a legacy of jazz players, plays with the full 14-piece Lincoln Jazz Center Orchestra.
