Columbia College signs two athletes

Columbia College announced the signings of women’s basketball player Tammy Thomas and softball player Valerie Teter yesterday.

Thomas is a 6-foot forward from Hancock High School in St. Louis. As a senior, she averaged 18.5 points and 11.2 rebounds and earned second-team all-state honors.

"She has been a force in the St. Louis area over the past four years," Columbia Coach Mike Davis said. "Her scoring speaks for itself, but her rebounding may be her best attribute."

Teter is a utility player from Bevier. She had a career batting average of .492 with 26 home runs. As a pitcher she went 82-13 with 1,083 strikeouts in four years.

"She is intelligent, well-rounded and can play many positions on the field," Cougars softball Coach Wendy Spratt said.
