Cougars stay
unbeaten in AMC games

Katie McMahon struck out 10 batters in a five-inning no-hitter as the Columbia College softball team beat Harris-Stowe 10-0 yesterday in the first game of a doubleheader in St. Louis. The Cougars (14-9, 6-0 American Midwest Conference) won the second game 14-0. Meghan Bailey earned the victory in the second game, giving up three hits in three innings before Marcie McMahon finished the game with two innings of relief. Rachel Brawner went 6 for 7 with four runs in the doubleheader. Stephanie Stowe recorded five hits, with two doubles, three RBI and two runs. Lindsey Williams, Katie McMahon and Stephanie Kababie had three hits apiece.
Girls soccer ● Helias 1, Hickman 0: The Kewpies (3-4) suffered their second 1-0 defeat of the season to the Crusaders. Helias scored on a 30-yard free kick in the second half.
Prep baseball ● Blair Oaks 4, Hallsville 3: The Falcons (4-0) scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning for the comeback victory over the Indians (0-1). Hallsville’s Jake Hardin, who went 3 for 4, reached on a two-out double in the bottom of the seventh but was stranded, as Travis Henke picked up the save. Derek Shikles was the winning pitcher, going six innings with six strikeouts and six hits. Tyler Lueckenhoff was 3 for 3 and Matt Polowny was 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Falcons. ● North Callaway 18, Louisiana 3 (5 inn.): The Thunderbirds (3-0) teed off for 11 runs in the first inning and chased pitcher Trace Penrod, who recorded only one out and gave up 10 runs. North Callaway added six runs in the second and one in the third inning. Zane Lavy was 2 for 2 with three RBI and three runs. Bobby McGuire went 2 for 2 with two RBI. Shelton Blevins was 2 for 3 with three RBI. Sam Cole got the win.
